19 year old punched a 12 year old Franklin Middle School Student (Full Story)

Dontrell D. Banks – Age 19

Springfield, Illinois – Yesterday, around 7:53 a.m., a Springfield Police Officer was called to Franklin Middle School, located at 1200 Outer Park Drive, for a trespass report.

When the officer arrived, he met with an off-duty Springfield Police Officer in the guidance dean’s Office, along with the principal. In the office was Dontrell D. Banks, age 19.

The officer was told that Dontrell rode a yellow School Bus to Franklin Middle School, with his sister, who attends school there. Dontrell was wearing a green Franklin Middle School Hooded sweatshirt when he got on the bus. When Dontrell got off the bus, he headed to the cafeteria, where he battered a 12 year old boy.

The off-duty Officer stared that he heard there was a fight over his school radio, and he found Dontrell in the cafeteria.

The Officer asked Dontrell what happened and Dontrell told the officer he battered the boy because he did something “vicious” to his little sister and he wasn’t going to get away with it. While in the officer, the officer noted that Dontrell was wearing the sweatshirt, at the time, but he did have a book bag with him that had a green Franklin sweatshirt inside it.

Dontrell stated that the incident involving the boy and his sister happened over the weekend and the police were called. The officer noted, in his report, that he could not find any incidents that occurred over the weekend at Dontrell’s home address.

The Officer also talked to an employee at Franklin Middle School, who stated that he witnessed the incident. The employee stated that Dontrell grabbed the boy in the cafeteria and threw several punches that hit the boy on top of his head.

The parents of the boy was notified, and the off-duty officer stated that the boy did not have any visible signs of injury. The school also advised that there is video of the incident.

Dontrell was then arrested and booked into the Sangamon County Jail for pending charges of criminal trespassing and aggravated battery to a child under 13.

Today, the Sangamon County States Attorney’s Officer has charged Dontrell with aggravated battery in a public place, a class 3 felony. Bond will be set for Dontrell, this afternoon, by a Sangamon County Judge.
