Springfield, Illinois – An Athens man is wanted on two charges after threatening a Sangamon County Judge by telephone.
Cody R. Martin, age 24, is accused of threatening Sangamon County Judge, Jennifer Ascher, after she suspended parenting rights in a child custody case. It is unknown to us, at this time, how the child support case is relevant to Martin, because he isn’t listed as the defendant or the plaintiff in the child custody case.
Sangamon County State’s Attorney, Dan Wright, who personally filed the charges against Martin, states that Martin said he would, “punch (Judge Ascher) in the nose next time he saw her”, and that he would kill her by “running her over when he sees her.”
Cody is charged with threatening a public official, a class 3 felony and telephone harassment, a class 4 felony.
At this time, a warrant has been issued for Cody. As of 5:35 p.m., Cody has not been booked into the Sangamon County Jail. Bond has also been set in the amount of $150,000.
